HAVE YOU SEEN A GHOST MUSHROOM?

Come into the forest at night on a 45 minute guided adventure.

You will learn some facts about the Ghost Mushroom, Omphalotus nidiformis, and have time to let your eyes adjust to the dark so you can see the mushrooms glow in all their glory. 

Ghost Mushroom viewing experience is influenced by the phase of the moon. The appearance of the mushrooms glow is impacted by a full moon, hence tours are conducted close to a new moon only.

Minimum 6 people, Maximum group of 16 people 

Children 3 years and under are free - must advise at time of booking in notes section.

Please note that you will have a short amount of time to take photos, remember you will be with a group of people and Walk the Limestone Coast can not guarantee that your photos will not be interrupted by others torch light.

NOTE - These fungi glow white to the naked eye. 

The green glow (seen in photos/video footage) can only be picked up by the long exposure of a camera, not the naked eye.

Fitness

This experience is suited to people with an average level of fitness. There may be a 10-20 minute walk in to get to the mushrooms. The ground is irregular and uneven, with loose surfaces and tree branches. As the glow of the Ghost Mushroom can only be seen after dark, visibility is also poor.

What do I wear/bring?

Warm clothes, closed-toe footwear, umbrella and a torch are a must, a red torch would be really handy if you have one too. 

Please ensure you are clothed appropriately as no refunds are available after booking, if you arrive underprepared you may be asked to not accompany the walk for safety reasons. 

Weather

Tours will be delivered even if raining, so bring your wet weather gear. Tour will only be cancelled if there is a severe weather warning and you will receive a call on the day of tour if tour is cancelled due to weather and you will receive a credit voucher, no refunds.

Dogs - Assistance dogs only on guided tours.

IMPORTANT

Walk the Limestone Coast is entitled to cancel a tour at any time where the number of participants which have fully paid for their reservation is less than the minimum required walkers of 6 per Ghost Mushroom Tour (excluding guide) within 1 day of Tour.

Walk the Limestone Coast is entitled to cancel a Tour within 1 day prior to tour if there are insufficient glowing Ghost Mushrooms available to deliver a Tour. 

In the above two circumstances customers will be contacted by the Sole trader by phone prior to Tour date and receive a full refund.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Meeting location of Ghost Mushroom Tour will be outlined in booking confirmation email.

*Approximate driving time to tour location from:

Mt Gambier -  20 minutes

Millicent - 30 minutes

Penola - 45 minutes

Naracoorte - 1hr 15min

Robe - 1hr 15min

*Note the drive to Ghost Mushroom Tours can take twice as long in the dark than in daylight due to the abundance of kangaroos, low fog and wet weather conditions. Please allow extra time to drive to site to allow for unfavourable driving conditions. There is no signage to get there you must follow directions in confirmation email.

If you miss a guided tour and the following one is booked out you will not be able to join or receive a refund. Keeping numbers at set limit of 16 per tour is important for safety and enjoyment.

Phone reception is poor and guides phone is turned off during tour.
